Snack Money
Morning snack can be sent from home or purchased from school. Anyone buying snack from school must commit to the whole week and pay via ParentPay on Monday morning before 8:30am. The maximum amount snack will cost is £2.50 per week. There is also an option to pay for the whole term.
Reading Books
Reading Books will usually be changed Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Please read with your child every night and sign their reading record.

You have been given a Knowledge Organiser and Homework Grid with some tasks relating to our topic.
Homework
Children will receive up to 10 spellings per week to learn at home and will need to return them each Friday before the test.

Autumn 1:
Where Do We Live?
This half term, we will be focusing on our geography skills. Our studies will include learning all about where we live, using atlases to pinpoint the United Kingdom, following onto aerial maps to explore our local area. During this topic, we will be taking a trip to our local park to explore human and physical features of geography and use our school grounds to consolidate this learning. As well as this, we will spend time focusing on writing simple captions and sentences about our learning, practising our phonics skills. What a wonderful topic to start the year on, let the adventure begin!

Autumn 2:
Toys Through Time
This half term, we will be focusing on our history skills. Our studies will include travelling through time to explore how toys have changed from when our grandparents were children until present day. During this topic, we will use historical artifacts from Warrington Museum to inform our learning as well as using a range of books such as; ‘Lost in the Toy Museum’ by David Lucas, ‘Dogger’ by Shirley Hughes and many more! We will spend time focusing on writing simple sentences, using adjectives and begin to use question marks in our written work.

Spring 1:
Real Life Superheroes!
This half term we will be completing a study of significant individuals throughout history. Focusing particularly on Florence Nightingale, Mary Seacole, The Wright Brothers and Robert Peel. During this topic we will use different sources to explore the impact these individuals had on nursing, policing and flying planes! Alongside this, we will also be focusing on fictional superheroes, writing instructions and character descriptions using a variety of stimulus.
Spring 2:
Fairytales
This half term, this literacy topic will enable the children to get lost in the magical world of fictional stories, immersing themselves in a variety of fairytales including ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ to name just a few! During this topic, the children will continue to build on the early story telling skills, focusing particularly on setting descriptions and sequencing to support their development of creative writing.
Summer 1:
Ocean explorers!

This half term, our Year 1 adventurers are setting sail on a thrilling journey across the world’s oceans and seas! Through stories, non-chronological reports and hands-on activities, children will explore the wonders beneath the waves from shimmering coral reefs to mysterious deep-sea creatures. Along the way, we’ll learn why our oceans are so important and how we can help protect them. Whether it’s spotting plastic pollution or discovering how sea turtles stay safe, our young explorers will become ocean heroes with big ideas for a cleaner, kinder planet. So grab your snorkel and join us, there’s a whole world waiting to be discovered!
Summer 2:
Going to the seaside!
This half term, this history topic will travel through time back to the Victorian days, exploring what life was like living by the seaside. Learning all about bathing machines, Punch and Judy shows and enjoy listening to music people may have performed on bandstands! As well as this, we will continue to develop our geography skills by exploring the human and physical features of life at the seaside using nearby seaside towns such as Formby and Crosby as reference.
